Jennifer & Ryan, September 13th

October 30, 2008

Caleb photographed this beautiful wedding with Kristin Newman last month. Jennifer and Ryan had an intimate ceremony at the French Huguenot Church and were led through the streets of Charleston by a gospel choir to their reception at Hibernian Hall!

Here’s how Caleb described the day in a previous post on the wedding:

“Rob and I returned yesterday from one of the most fun weddings I’ve ever been to in Charleston, SC. If there is one word to describe the wedding of Jennifer & Ryan it would be: Celebration! It was crystal clear that they wanted to really celebrate their day, and all of their friends seem to have gotten the message! So, here are a few of my favorite shots of the two of them, and then a few of their outstanding reception.”

Enjoy some of our favorite photographs below!

Jennifer & Jake, September 10th

October 29, 2008

Its rare when you get the opportunity to photograph a wedding on a Tuesday. In fact, this is my first ever Tuesday wedding (now the only day of the week that I haven’t shot a wedding on is a Wednesday…anyone want to be the first?!?). Jennifer and Jake chose the date because it was the 10 year anniversary of their first date. They had a short engagement and knew that they wouldn’t have a problem with venues or vendors, so they ran with it! The wedding and reception took place at the Brooks Museum of Art in Memphis. The day was very chill yet very intimate. Despite the Tuesday date, many friends and family were there to celebrate.

Below are a few of my favorite images of this beautiful couple.

Here is the exact description of Twittering from their website:
Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?

Mary Brittain & Jay, September 13, 2008

October 24, 2008

These are some of my favorite images from Mary Brittain and Jay’s wedding last month in Oneonta, Alabama. This beautiful couple had such a cool chemistry, a true appreciation for the other. I love the fact that they were friends before they started dating. In fact, Mary Brittain told me that she didn’t want to date Jay, for fear of losing one of her best friends. The two started med school 4 years ago at the same time and have been inseparable ever since. They just clicked; they made sense. This casual appreciation carried over to create a beautiful atmosphere for their wedding weekend. It made my job easy. I shot Mary Brittain’s prep and portraits at her parents house and we returned there for a beautiful backyard reception after a ceremony at the church where Mary Brittain grew up.

Feel free to check out the album HERE, designed by the amazing Branden Lower.

Enjoy images and the Q & A with this cool couple.

Jay and friends shot shotguns before the ceremony; remember, we are in Alabama!

The Olympic Committee just decided they’re going to create a new event. What would you suggest?
Jay: bocce ball. Is that an already an Olympic sport?
Mary Brittain: Pogo-stick 100m.

HGTV says they’ll redo one room in your house and make it incredible. What room do you choose, and what’s one thing you’d require it to have?
Jay: Kitchen with a couch, because everyone always hangs out in the kitchen.
Mary Brittain: Bathroom (because I can barely turn sideways in it right now) with an ice maker, because who wants to walk down to the kitchen for a glass of cold water before bed?

If you had to be on a reality show, which one would you choose and why?
Mary Brittain: Fear Factor. I am incapable of turning down any dare.

What was the funniest/ most unique thing you registered for as a wedding gift?
An Aerogarden to grow our own herbs. Didn’t get it.

Where have all the cowboys gone?
To Brokeback Mountain

Oscar, Grammy, or Pulitzer Prize. Who gets which?
Mary Brittain: Jay would get the Pulitzer Prize.
Jay: Mary Brittain would get the Nobel Prize (yeah, I know its not on there, but it should be)

Whose car is more a mess?
Jay: Hers. No question about it.
Mary Brittain: Mine. Definitely.

An hour to roam the mall. Where will you be?
Mary Brittain: Anthropologie.
Jay: I have become the human clothes rack.

First Christmas tree. Colored bulbs or white lights?
Jay: Colored.
Mary Brittain: White. Uh oh.

Anymore questions for the couple? Post a comment and ask away!

Matchstic Shoot

October 22, 2008

I spent all day yesterday with Matchstic, the brand identity house that has done all the A Bryan Photo collateral through the years. They work out of a really cool house in East Atlanta and their culture is truly remarkable. I’ve told them that I need to come and document how they work. I shot mostly film yesterday but here’s a quick digital shot that I grabbed of Craig and Blake, the two founders (Craig is my brother and is on the right).
More to come when I get the rest in!

You’re Invited!!!

October 20, 2008

The season is changing and it’s finally starting to get cool. Fall is one of my favorite times of year… I mean, what’s not to like? Football is on almost every night of the week, the weather is amazing, the leaves are changing color and Thanksgiving is coming soon.

In honor of this glorious change, I am inviting everyone over to my back yard for hot chocolate and s’mores tonight.

I know it’s short notice, but regardless of who you are, I’d love to have you over tonight to hang out with a couple guys from the A Bryan Photo team and enjoy some time by the fire.

If you want to come, the address is:

4424 Dolly Ridge Road
Birmingham, AL 35243

Fun starts at 8. No need to let me know if you’re coming or bring anything. Just show up. If you can’t find it, call me at 205-249-6631. Oh, and bring a jacket. It might be a little chilly.

Britton & Robert, September 6th

October 17, 2008

Here are some of my favorite shots from this beautiful wedding in Montgomery, AL. Britton and Robert requested a private gallery on the website, but were very gracious in allowing us to post a blog on the two of them!
Their intimate ceremony took place at Britton’s home in front of close family and friends, followed by an elegant reception with hundreds more at the Montgomery Country Club. Shooting the rehearsal dinner provided me the chance to see how these two have touched so many lives with their energy and constantly encouraged those closest to them. Their wedding carried that same energy and joy. It was a true celebration of the life of these two!

The intimate ceremony:

My favorite shots of the day:

The party was amazing! My favorite detail of the reception was the hall of a thousand roses that lined the entrance:

Britton and Robert, thanks so much for letting us capture this day!

Sarah & Jeremiah Engagement

October 15, 2008

Thanks to Jeremy and Robby’s video, many of you know that Jeremiah got engaged last month. Last week we got together for an engagement session near the Cahaba River. It was a very special session for me as Jeremiah is a close friend and also because of his interesting love story with Sarah. The majority of their relationship has been long distance; with Sarah living in DC, West Africa and now LA. Jeremiah and Sarah have both traveled all over the world over the last year and a half in order to spend time together. I know the frustration that it has caused them both as they have just wanted to be together for longer than a weekend. Contrast that frustration with the joy of this shoot. It was so good to spend time with Sarah, see Jeremiah light up around her, and actually see them as a couple and not just as an idea. I’m honored to be shooting their wedding in December. It will be a celebration for all those close to this great couple.
